Zimbabwe crisis

In the past few days, all eyes and ears were fixed in Zimbabwe with many hoping they will see President Robert Mugabe stepping down. The politics in Zimbabwe we are well aware of and we know what kind of a leader is Mugabe alongside the first lady Grace Mugabe. The ruling party ZANU PF, Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front which was led by Robert Mugabe for over 36 years, released a statement on Wednesday the 15th that Emmerst Mnangagwa took over and was to lead the party stating that it is a fresh start for the country. Mugabe was said to be detained alongside his family and what was thought to be a coup was seen where Military tanks and the army were occupying Harare in high numbers. The party, ZANU-PF and the army chief denied coup rumours but stated that it was a bloodless transition of power.

President Mugabe despite all the tension that took place still refused to leave the hot seat. Mugabe stirred this when he fired his deputy president Ennerst Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa fled the country following death threats. The party when denying ‘coup’ rumours said that the bloodless transition saw crooked and corrupt persons being arrested and an elderly person been taken advantage of by his wife. They are referring to their own president or shall I say, former president as an elderly man. You know with all that is happening in Zimbabwe, I thought of South Africa and compared ZANU-PF to our very own ANC.
One might ask why am I thinking of South Africa, we are a stable country or is it? Oh well, the two have similar features for me because the ANC helped the country fight the apartheid and under it leadership we are living in a democratic country. It was the same with ZANU-PF when Mugabe brought ‘freedom’ for his country, no one knew that freedom could be as bitter as it is right now, where power is the main focus and not serving the people. Where greed and selfishness come first than service delivery and creating peace. The ANC once said that it will rule until Jesus comes, and unfortunately for them, South Africans made sure he came sooner than expected during the Municipal elections. Mugabe was pushing for his wife to be deputy president so she could take over from him. I am seeing almost the same thing in South Africa where President Zuma has publicly came out in support for his ex-wife to lead the party and obviously succeed him too.

I am not sure whether Zuma is aware that we are aware of what he is trying to do, I mean not all of us are blind whilst our eyes are wide open, come on Mr JZ. I must say I like how the ZANU-PF handled the situation when removing Mugabe as the leader of the party although that guy thinks he owns Zimbabwe and is still refusing to step down, they showed that it is never too late for change. I have one question though in my mind but I won’t explore it now all I will say is, can our military take a few notes from the neighbours military and one time do something about Jacob Zuma? I mean the whole world is probably thinking South Africans are the dumbest for having such a president, it is never too late for change you know. Or maybe the ANC, how about it resolves its issues and kindly ask our president to step down? I mean the party has reasons for doing so. As a matter of fact, the whole country does. This very person dragged their name down into the mud as the ANC and it is only reasonable they take action. I see that Zuma may have similar characteristics as Mugabe I’m saying this based on the death threats recived by Jacques Pauw on writing about Jacob Zuma, I am not sure what those could be, but they are there. Ok back to Zimbabwe just to wrap up, now the reason the ZANU-PF and military said that was no coupe is because of the SADC. The SADC follows some delicate choices on deciding how to deal with military takeover hence the clarification of the coupe rumour was that of ‘bloodless transition and with that they said to have arrested several cabinet ministers and other senior members of the so-called G-40 faction within the ruling party, led by Grace Mugabe. So how come they do not arrest her as well as the leader of this faction? This Grace Mugabe seems to be prison-proof.

Both the SADC and AU states it clear that any government that comes to power by the military coup or other unconstitutional means is then suspended from the two organisations so Zimbabwe Defence Force and he ruling party are both aware of the rules. Wraping it up, Mugabe is making things difficult for the military and his deputy or former deputy by refusing to resign voluntary an di don’t know maybe eventually the military will have to use force in making him resign provoking the SADC and maybe have Zimbabwe shut out.
