In the coming December ANC conference, we see two female candidates campaigning for to lead the party. Former chair of the African union Dr Nkosazana-Dlamini Zuma and National executive member of the ANC, Human settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu are our female president hopefuls. Is South Africa ready for a female president? Some will argue with the question itself whilst others are giving a range of answers to it. Looking at the state of our country, I think female or not, the country needs someone to rescue it from all that have done to it. Our country is like a sinking ship, we need a very wise person to help us of the crisis our country is going through.
Many stereo-type people still think and believe that a female is not capable of leading South Africa. So much has happened for the ANC this year and I am one of those people who are waiting to see the outcomes of this coming conference. With so many factions in the ANC, one good example is the Kwa-Zulu Natal province where you have the Sihle Zikalala camp and former premier Senzo Mchunu. It is not only them, there are many as far as I am concerned, many people in the ANC see that it no longer represent them, but interests of the few, but are fearful and are untrustworthy of the opposition parties.
We see other regions supporting Dr Dlamini-Zuma even the ANC Women’s league president Bathabile Dlamini made it known that she is behind Dlmaini-Zuma for president. Is she behind Dlamini-Zuma because she is also a Dlamini? Or because she is a Zuma? I mean it’s known that President Zuma may have a soft spot for Bathabile Dlamini, if not why did he not react on the social grants issue even after the Constitutional court found her to be incompetent? Anyways she (Bathabile Dlamini) knows why she is behind Dlamini-Zuma. On the other hand Sisulu when asked about how she felt that womens league president endorsed Dlamini-Zuma, she was not shaken. Her camp is getting stronger and stronger and was seen to have been the second after Ramaphosa’s campaign.
Dlamini-Zuma some don’t want her simply because of her last name and I don’t balme anyone who says that simply because Mr Zuma, the president has done so much wrong for the country, so I would not trust anyone with that surname too and more over if she is the ex-wife of the Zuma we are talking about, never. She had to defend herself from such saying that she is more than the president’s ex-wife. Sisulu’s campaign on the other hand is a progressive socialist movement, she addresses issues mainly affecting the majority of our citizens which is the state of poverty. Sisulu’s vision is to turn South Africa into a construction site where new communities are built and more people to live in decent households. What else do you expect her to say more, she is the minister of human settlements, good living conditions of the people and present job opportunities to better everyone’s lives has to be of her priority.
I do not want to talk about Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, just this once the spotlight is on the females. Now think about this, if Ramaphosa was not campaigning to succeed Mr Zuma, who do you think the ANC would vote for or select to be their new leader in the coming December Conference between Dlamini-Zuma and Lindiwe Sisulu? One other thing, do you think South Africa is ready or not for a female president?
