Cape dope MC answering questions “VEGITA”

Do you do for a love of hip hop or the career as the perspective of hip hop rappers differ about this art? In the beginning I was doing it for the love which is what kept me going and pushing through the pain, but now it’s a career, Vegita is a brand and his music is a business. So I guest both.

What inspired you to be a part of a hip hop art? I fell in love with the art at an early age, I think I was 14 writing drama scripts for my school, and then in 2008 I started writing my own songs after I got inspired by likes of Skwatta Kamp, PRO and other dope local artists. I’ve been living hip hop my whole life.

Who is your favorite hip hop artist, and what motivate you about his/her music?

My favorite artist is Kendrick Lamar. I like versatile rapper who can trap, rap, with a different dope flow on every song and he never disappoints, I dig that.

In the 80s and early 90s the hip hop was more political and revealing the social concerns, today this art is more specific about living luxury life and women. What is your opinion on that? Eish, you know these days rap is no longer Rhythm and Poetry its coz rappers wanna do what sells instead of selling what they do, everyone wants to trap now. There are lot of things happening in the country, but nah we wanna rap about b*tches, drugs and money in every sing. Music is a therapy, but now people listen to the music they relate to, which is why everybody likes J.Cole, other niggaz be doing garbage music. Tell us about hip hop in Cape Town, compare to other S.A towns based on your research? Cape Town rappers can rap trust me, everyone can trap and skr!skr! but none of these niggaz can rap like us, listen to YOUNGSTA CPT the dude is dope and he can rap a lot better than all these mainstream rappers.

According to our general knowledge, Cape Town is famously with their hip hop trend called SPAZA; is any the future about this trend? Spaza music trend is growing every day, I mean we’ve seen the like of RATTEX, DRIEMANASKAP doing big things, and trust me there are young rappers coming through. We just need to be more serious on the business side of music, and then trust me its gonna take over!!!

Vegita is your brand name, real Name is Siviwe Sixoka. Without hip hop; give us an ideal life of Siviwe when is not on hip hop? Siviwe is a business man selling dope on the streets tryn to make living, “hahaha” am kidding! Siviwe is a guy from Easten Cape kuTsolo but grew up in Cape Town, went to Fezeka high school. So if I’m not on hip hop, I’m chilling with my old school day one, niggaz playing soccer, I love soccer but these days I don’t have time for friends, I like chilling by myself and just listen to music, that’s me
