His alias spells out his mission and intent, Yahkeem means “The One Who Builds “this trait plays itself out in various dimensions of his music, activism, community mobilization, and advocacy. From the word go he set himself apart from being just a performer; work ethic, drive and goal orientation saw him dismantle stereotypical perceptions such as for an artist to gain national respect and recognition they are compelled to move to Johannesburg. He is redefining history and stands as a leading figure and vanguard in the province.

The music journey started in the year 2003 with Khululekani, Eastern Cape’s Most celebrated rap crew of all time. They had a couple of hits on national Stations such as Mhlobo Wenene FM, Metro FM, Ukhozi etc, in 2007 the group Released a self titled EP. Due to individual growth and exploration the group unfortunately dissolved leaving behind a void that is yet to be filled Nearly a decade later.This gave Yahkeem space to persue music as soloist. In 2009 he released The Spirit Level a free project that was launched on air at Mhlobo Wenene FM’s Jaivah Mzantsi a show hosted by the award winning Luckeez Mfowethu. The project launched him as a force to be reckoned with in the South African Music Landscape, appearing on South Africa’s Number one Hip Hop Magazine The Hype Magazine, UK radio Blogs, and most South African stations.
