Raised by a single mother, Tanaka Chiwandire wanted to spread the gospel of hope to others. “Being raised by a Christian mother, it was easy for me to follow the gospel. I always have… the wellbeing of others at heart whenever I deliver on the mic,” said Chiwandire. The gospel rap artist known as JustSolidMuzik started writing music at the age of 10. Now 21, he said, “When I started writing my raps, I was inspired by the likes of 50 Cent and Bow Wow. But the more I grew as a Christian, I realised that my gift was given by God, for the world. That is when I started incorporating love and hope into my rap.” Chiwandire started doing rap gospel in 2012 and has since released five mixtapes, with the latest offering being Dream Season. He said his music is for the young, old, believers and non-believers. “I do not want to be boxed as a religious rapper of some sort, as I believe my rhymes are for everyone regardless of their beliefs. “I constantly seek to inspire hearts by means of adding hope, faith, and love.” He released a music video in August for his lead single Whatever it takes. “The music video has been receiving a good audience from TBN Africa and globally on TropasStelza, a blog that features South African, Mozambican and Angolan artists.” The Express asked him what makes him different from other rap artists. “I’m not so different from other rappers, I just choose to uplift rather than belittle others with rhymes that do not add value to people’s lives, but choose to inspire others to reach for greatness and be the best successful version of themselves, both mentally and spiritually.” He will be releasing a summer single No chill on 9 December.
