This month we take a look at a brand that preaches (pun very much intended) "Truth", "Forgiven", "Peace" and many more heart warming and inspiring quotes. I chat with Themba, Brand Creator about his brand Obafemi and what it is all about.
So, what does Obafemi mean and how does that link up to the brand and vision itself?
I always get mistaken for a Nigerian,so one day after a barber that ended being a good friend and I had a huge argument about my origin, insisted I look Nigerian. He than said "You know who you look like"? I said yeah my dad and he said like Obafemi. I ignored him, but curiosity would not allow me to let it go.I got to the office and googled him. Found that he played a major role in Nigeria's independence but what really got to me was the direct meaning of Obafemi is Nigerian which mean the King loves me. It's a rare name given to son. How it links up with the vision is that I interpreted it as God loves me and in everything that we do at Obafemi Concepts would be to exalt God's name and come up with initiatives that are unique.
Your messages centre around motivation, especially around christian values, tell me more about that.
The reason for that is because I personallyy think the word is not preached in a way that is relavant to the youth and that is why Beyonce will have more views than Cece Winans, Beyonce speaks the youth's language. When I gave my life to Christ, I got a pastor who spoke my language and I could relate. Also for me its a calling. I got saved so that I can guide others.
Tell me about your colour scheme. It's loud and bright. Why those particular colours? Do they symbolise anything?
Lollll, visibility I guess. It's another of connecting to the youth. The youth does not do dark colours, ethnic colours are not really cool now are they? Although our next project will be mainly dark ethnic colours.

Ethnic colours are great, although Im not sure Im still considered a 'youth' hahaha. Is the new range dropping soon?
Please, you're not 40 so you're youth. Yes I always launch my new range every year on the 28th of August and also cause its the eve of spring. It's also my birthday. I believe the new year is really on your birthday so for me I'm opening the new year with something new.
I believe the same thing. Look, I may not feel like a 'youth' anymore (lethal combination of working crazy hours and an old soul) but that hot pink and those neon colours? Yes please! Cuteness AMPLIFIED. Obafemi makes hoodies, t-shirts, beanies and caps.
