Many times, it's difficult to imagine someone elses struggles and achievements as your own, even more so when they are living in borders you've never crossed before. Luckily, music transcends all barriers and we are able to experience someone elses experience, even though sometimes it's just through the tone in which they deliver.I'm going to try to make this a regular feature because I feel it's important for us to know that although separated by many miles, our struggles in music are for the most part one and the same. This month we feature Young D, an emcee from Malawi.

Born Daniel Malola on 12th October 1988, in Zomba city and raised in the commercial city of Blantyre. Young D is a Malawian Hip Hop Artist whose not yet signed although his music is making rounds around all major radio stations and enjoying massive chart rotation .His journey and road to success is as humble as most of the artists who have managed to make it. He started music in 2008 within a group called Wind Droppers. The group did not last long and he laid low for a while until 2013 when he decided to break his music fast but it would not come to be until his single Tastogola featuring Daredevils kick started a career that was once cramped.

Since that release the country's urban music fans have adapted to the young artist and embraced his music, which include Payerere featuring Mafo, Ob & Baby sleam and Ulendo Feat Saint. He is currently working on his mixtape Zakumaloto. This Project is scheduled to drop late this year.

On the single Ulendo ft Saint that is currently on our #bnrtight10 weekly playlist

Ulendo means journey. So I am talking about a journey that lovers face when they are in love. They face different challenges, like jealous people who come with tall stories to separate them. So I am telling this lady to be strong so that we can reach our final destination. That song was written to teach people to focus on each other when they are in love, rather than focusing on what outside people are talking about.

Regarding the struggles that your country's youth have faced that have been spread via hip hop?

Here the great challanges that the youth face in our country is that hip hop is just only now growing here so its hard for an artist to be recognised since only a few Dj's suport local artists. Although it's hard, hip hop artists are are doing some good work, even spreading messages on abuse against women and albinos. When you are a hip hop artist in Malawi sometimes you are taken like someone who has nothing to do.
