Murderers have tears for days! I don’t know about you, but Marion “Suge” Knight collapsing and bashing his head in at court after the judge set his bail at $25 million for charges on murder and attempted murder fails to garner any sympathy from me. Especially after finding out that he not only hit the deceased victim with his car once, he circled around and ran over him again before speeding away! The second victim who survived got lucky as he escaped the second attempt on his life. The three are said to have started the argument on the set of “Straight Outta Compton”, the anticipated biopic about the provocative group N.W.A. This incident occurred on January the 29th and since then Suge Knight has been detained…and whining like a man who didn’t just attempt to kill two men and succeed in killing one. Reports have him on record complaining how he doesn’t have access to hot water and how he doesn’t have enough blankets in prison. He went in front of the judge to say he’d lost 30 pounds since his detainment and that he was having trouble seeing. I empathise Suge, really I do. Prison is not the most pleasant of places. Not killing people is how you pretty much guarantee that you don’t go there. Go figure.

Chris Brown is no longer prison fodder, for now. He will be coming to SA for his concert as a free man. His charges for the 2009 assault on Rihanna were dropped on March 20th. We retweeted this tweet on Friday when he took to his twitter to express his delight in the case finally closing.

IM OFF PROBATION!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank the Lord!!!!!!!!

I’m hoping that his glee carries through and manifests itself on stage for his fans when he does his SA leg of his tour. The last concert was pretty lame. You watch these stars on Youtube giving their all on their US and Europe tour stops. Australia even. And then they come here and feel it’s enough to just take off a t-shirt. At ticket prices ranging between R750 and R1500? No sir. Chris is notorious for underperforming when he’s here. I’ll settle for Youtube videos thanks. Ya’ll let me know how it goes neh? I’ll try and get the set list for you so you loyal fans at least know what to expect.

Have you heard Kabelo’s latest single “Matimba”? I had been wondering where he’d disappeared to and had even made peace with never hearing his slightly arrogant laugh over a tight beat again when cyclone Matimba hit me fresh and early while on my morning jog. The first couple of bar counts can confuse you as he only come’s in about a minute and half into the song. You won’t be bored though. The beat is sick. Not your typical TKZ reminiscent Kwaito disguised as hip hop or vica versa beat. No. This beat is lively, rooted deeply in Afro-Latin dominions that characterise Central and South America. Expect to want to salsa and kwasa! Just when you’re thinking, ‘now wait a minute’…his signature chuckle (ha, ha) will calm you and you’ll be back on familiar grounds. It’s a praise song I think, my Tsonga is very basic, and you will want to praise along with him. The video is very green. No scantily dressed women, no sweat inducing cars. Just a couple of cute looking boys and girls seemingly discovering a new city. Well shot and satisfying on the eye. Watch it here.

I love a bit of realness. Ok, who am I fooling…I love a lot of it. And this is what Ginger Breadman served this past week on his twitter TL. He asked his give or take 20 000 followers why they were following him if not for the music and went on to say that those who were not following because they were fans of the music should unfollow, saying it made his job easier. He reasoned that if he were followed by his real supporters, he’d be able to see what his actual reach was, suggesting that his 20 000 followers did not amount to 20 000 albums/singles sold which is what we automatically assume.

If I’m left with12 followers, then that way I know I have 12 people who are actually going to buy this album when I drop it

He described music as his life and that he had a mission and a purpose. I wonder how many artists looked at his tweets and swallowed quietly. These social outlets will have you believing you’re much bigger than you really are. The rush to get as many followers or Likes as possible is futile when you soberly compare it to the number of actual sales. I hope that you didn’t find his reflections funny or boring as much as you found them educational. Fans that buy your music are a tricky breed, no matter how long you’ve been in the game. I’m rooting for Ginger Trill. He has real talent and he’s put in a lot of hard work to be where he is. I hope his fans support him with their money, not just their mouths. Go out and buy it ya'll!
